Hackney Library Welcomes New Technology Faculty & Staff

If you’ve been in Hackney Library recently, you may have noticed some new faces.   They belong to our newest librarians:  Luke Aeschleman, Circulation and Technology Librarian, who started October 1; and Andy Taylor, Director of Online Programming and Technology Instruction Librarian, whose first day was November 26.

Luke Aeschleman comes to us from the Miami University Libraries in Oxford, Ohio, where he worked in a variety of positions since 2008, most recently serving as Senior Library Technician.  Luke’s current duties in Hackney Library include supervising all library circulation functions and student personnel, as well as handling interlibrary loan requests, helping to staff the reference desk, and serving the remainder of his time as one of the library’s technology librarians.  Along with other library faculty, he also teaches a variety of classes in the library classroom.  He also serves as liaison to the following schools/departments:  Science/Math/Psychology, Physical Education/Sports Studies/Athletic Training/Gerontology, and Nursing.  He holds Bachelor of Arts in English-Creative Writing and Bachelor of Arts in Theater-Performing degrees from Appalachian State University.  Luke will receive his Master of Arts degree in Library and Information Science from Kent State University in December, when he will join the other Hackney Library professional librarians with faculty status at Barton.  He has also taken postgraduate coursework in Teacher Education (Literacy and Language) while at Miami University.  He and his wife, Amie, have recently purchased a home in Knightdale, North Carolina.

Andy Taylor has very recently joined the library staff from the University of North Alabama, where he held the position of Digital Technologies Librarian since August 2007.  As Director of Online Programming and Technology Instruction at Barton, Andy will train faculty and students in online learning pedagogies and provide technical assistance for these courses. He will also monitor online classrooms to ensure educational quality and compliance with accreditation guidelines.  In the library, Andy will work closely with Luke to provide leadership in the management, development, and assessment of library online resources, explore new and emerging technologies, and perform troubleshooting on all public and staff computers in the library.  Andy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Bryan College and a Master of Information Science degree from the University of Tennessee. He has also taken additional coursework in Computer Science while at the University of North Alabama.  Andy and his wife and family have just moved to Wilson.

Hackney Library is grateful to have both of these folks on board, and as they become integrated into the life of the campus, the rest of the Barton College community will be as well.  Please welcome them when you see them in the library!
